Orange is the New Black author, Piper Kerman, is asking Floridians to put Governor Scott’s close ties to the prison industry under the microscope. Her book is the basis for a popular Netflix series about her unsettling experiences in prison. Kerman spoke Thursday night at Eckerd College as part a series celebrating Women’s History Month. Before the event WMNF’s Samuel Johnson interviewed Kerman about her views on prison reform, prison privatization and the criminalization of people with mental health and substance abuse issues.
