On Radioactivity Thursday we look at Amendment 1, also known as “Rights of Electricity Consumers Regarding Solar Energy Choice”, that is being back by 4 large for-profit utility companies: Florida Power and Light, Duke Energy, Tampa Electric and Gulf Power. Why would these utility companies, who mostly make their money off of coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy, back an initiative that is for solar energy choice? To answer that question we had Dr. Stephen Smith, executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, and Deirdre Macnab, Former President of the Florida League of Women Voters on Thursday’s show. They explain how the amendment might punish Florida residents who choose to use solar energy in their homes and businesses rather then pull from the power grid. More information on the opposition on Amendment 1 can be found at www.VoteNoOn1.org ,at www.flsolarchoice.org, and at www.flsun.org/.

Amendment 1 is written/funded by a special interest group representing the power companies and not a consumer group unlike their name. Google Who is Consumers for Smart Solar and see many stories warning consumers about this sham. Vote NO! on 1.
