Florida House Bill 583 is sponsored by Miami Republican Frank Artiles. It’s commonly known as the transgender bathroom bill. It applies to both public facilities and workplaces. It requires people to use restrooms that apply to their “biological sex, either male or female, at birth.” People who use a bathroom designated for the opposite gender face a misdemeanor including up to a year in prison and $1,000 fine.
Rep. Artiles was quoted in the Miami Herald: “A man such as myself can walk into the bathroom at LA Fitness while women are taking showers, changing, and simply walk in there …. If I feel like a woman that day, I can be allowed to be in that locker room.”
Texas and Kentucky are considering similar bills.
The guest in studio was Gianna Love. She’s a transgender activist in Tampa.
We invited a conservative activist as well, and Terry Kemple accepted our invitation. Unfortunately he could not be reached at the time of the interview. Kemple is the president of the Community Issues Council and a conservative activist who has run for Hillsborough County School Board.
A trans man is posting selfies on Twitter from inside women’s bathrooms to make a point about similar bills. Michael Huges of Minnesota has posted several of these. He has a full beard and muscled, tattooed arms.Quite frankly, he does NOT look like he belongs in a women’s bathroom. He is using hashtags like #occupotty #guyslikeus #TransLivesMatter and #wejustneedtopee.
