FL congressional map trial

A federal trial over the constitutionality of Florida’s congressional map gets underway this morning in Tallahassee. Civil rights groups and voters argue that the map was intentionally drawn to discriminate based on race.

 

Georgia’s World Heritage site

U.S. agencies announced that they will nominate Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This historic designation would mean a global spotlight for the Southeast Georgia swamp.

 

School voucher delay

Some Florida families of special needs students have yet to receive the private school vouchers meant to pay for tuition and other services. Maria Preston, who runs the Diverse Abilities Center, says the delay is halting necessary therapies and training, and putting smaller private schools on the brink.

 

Unparalleled presidential allegiance

President Joe Biden has decided to stand with United Auto Workers in Michigan during their strike against major carmakers, underscoring the first presidential allegiance to labor unions in U.S. history. The president will join on Tuesday, the 12th day of their strike. Biden says the workers should participate in the carmakers’ riches.

 

Ron DeSantis’ debates

A debate between California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Florida Governor and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has been scheduled for Nov. 30. The two governors have repeatedly locked horns on issues such as guns, abortion, immigration, and the economy. Fox News host Sean Hannity will moderate.
