Dozens of protesters chanted against Donald Trump in Ybor City Wednesday night and at least two more demonstrations are planned in Tampa Thursday evening. Taina Pantoja is with Tampa Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and is helping to organize one of them.

Listen:

There’s one demonstration at 6:00 p.m. in downtown Tampa and one at 7:30 p.m. in Ybor City.

“As students and as people who reside in the United States, we are rejecting the President Elect, Donald Trump.

“As SDS we’ve sat at the forefront of the ‘Dump Trump’ movement while he was running for office with nationwide protests and rallies, organized by SDS chapters, across the nation. We want to continue fighting against his and the Republican agenda of racism, misogyny and Islamophobia.

“So, we recognize his election as a step back from progress with women’s rights, civil rights and the rights of undocumented people.”

What do you expect the protest to look like? Do you think it will be a march? A rally?

“We have planned for a rally, but, depending on how many people we have and if everyone is really feeling it, then we might have a march.”

And your march is going to be in downtown Tampa at 6:00 p.m.. But, at 7:30 p.m. there is also a rally or a march in Ybor City. Are you part of that as well?

“Yes, actually. We’re planning on joining them.”

So, why don’t you let listeners know what time yours is and where they can meet and then if you have the information what time the other one is and where.

“Ours is in front of the Sam M. Gibbons Federal Courthouse in downtown Tampa at 6:00 p.m. For more information about ours you can go on Facebook.com/TampaBaySDS and the other one is going to be in the Centennial Park.”

and what is the point of it all.. WHY whats the point of it, these protest will not change the reality, they will not keep him out of office, this will only hurt the very thing you are trying to do. But if you all want to keep it up, but one thing I can tell you, all this you’re all pulling. and how the rest of the country sees it. Just keep it up and you can be rest assured that it will be a cold day in hell before anyone will vote for ANYONE you put on the ballot, any person you put forth, you want to make sure every elected seat in this country is RED.. then keep doing what you’re doing. This is not an endorsement of anything Trump, in fact I did not vote.. Found them both VILE and there was no way I would vote for Clinton. A war monger and a banking & corporate pig.

What is important is your voice before and after the vote. If the other side lost you would be hearing rigged election. There is only the time before Jan. 20th to make a final attempt to have protest in large like this after that lock down begins or as he calls it Law and Order. Checks and balances with the universal god will play out. Complete republican control of our country, good luck fighting major wars overseas with a weak and divided nation. Ms. Hillary Clinton was the hope to bring balance between both parties. We will wait and see if the electoral vote sticks, and votes are still being counted, along with possible faulty electronic voting machines. I believe 20 percent of voting touch screens had no paper trial to hand count, that is approximately 22.5 million votes. Some swing states were still trying to phase out for paper with scanners and not all states have same recount rules, which is wrong. Wrong because we are running our states differently for a federal election and to agree to disagree that local and state elections should run with their rules. So a federal election should have an automatic recount if close of less than 5 percent and all voting systems should have safeguards against tampering including a simple encrypted memory system. The voting machines and scanners have memory sd cards, please if you are protesting be peaceful and protest a recount. Take an extra minute to read up on the subject can voting machines be hacked. The day of the election PBS ran an article covering faults in our voting system and along with politico ran an article on Aug 5 2016 about a college professor highlighting the different machines and their fault points. Google these two articles, educate your attendees about this and please don.t get arrested for you never now there will be a bigger march to become apart of as we get closer to Jan. Stay Tuned………….
