Despite the growing demand for home healthcare as an alternative for the aging US population, home-care workers often struggle to making a living off their wages, which on the low end can be as little as $17,000 a year. Many of these caregivers are joining the growing movement of low-wage workers who are calling for a 15 dollar minimum. Today on Midpoint we talk to one of them, Patricia Walker, who works locally in Tampa for $10 an hour and recently went to the the White House Conference on Aging in Washington, to discuss how paying healthcare workers more can improve services to the elderly population, who are preferring to stay at home rather then live in a nursing home.
