Tampa Council delays decision on stormwater fee hikes

Share

Despite more than 30 residents speaking out during a public hearing that lasted into the afternoon, Tampa City Council made no decisions Thursday on proposed increases in stormwater fees.

Like the majority of the citizens who spoke, resident Larry Patterson opposes the rate increases – at least the way they are proposed.

There are two increases being considered. One is to raise funds for better service and to operate and maintain the existing system. That one isn’t as controversial as the other; to raise capital funds for major long-term projects to improve the system.

Despite the increases some business groups, like the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce support the proposed rates.

And resident Marlin Anderson is with the Sunset Park Area Homeowners Association, but he said he spoke only for himself.

Tampa City Council will talk about the less controversial service rate increase during a public hearing that continues next Thursday. It will take up the improvement assessment on October 22.
