Senator Bill Nelson implores South Carolina to remove the Confederate flag

Florida Senator Bill Nelson wants South Carolina to remove a Confederate Flag from the state capital. Nelson made the statement on Saturday at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa where he was congratulating students accepted to a US military academy.

Symbols of racial subjugation and hatred have become headline news. This comes in the wake of the apparent racially motivated Charleston killings at one of the nation’s oldest black churches. The Confederate Flag has been the poster child of what some see as an example of historical systemic racism; especially in the South. There is a movement to have the flag removed from the state Capital in South Carolina. Senator Bill Nelson agrees.

In order to remove the Confederate flag from the capital and other public spaces a two-thirds vote from the state General Assembly is required.
