Discussing race is necessary – it’s not racist. That was the underlying theme by two authors who spoke Thursday night at Eckerd College in Saint Petersburg.
After their talk WMNF interviewed NPR TV critic Eric Deggans and USF professor Roy Kaplan about race and racism.
Eric Deggans is the author of “Race-Baiter, How the Media Wields Dangerous Words to Divide a Nation.” Roy Kaplan wrote “Understanding Conflict and Change in a Multicultural World and The Myth of Post-Racial America.”
In both talks it was brought up whether racism should be addressed beginning at the top by government or at the bottom by grassroots organizations. WMNF began the interview by asking Eric Deggans how decriminalization of drug possession might affect racism?
