The Johnny Zoom Hi-Fi Show Serves “The Cocktail Mix” on Surface Noise

Surface Noise is proud to debut The Johnny Zoom Hi-Fi Show for our first-ever live performance on our Cocktail Mix segment heard around 7:45pm, Wednesday, August 9, 2017.

The Johnny Zoom Hi-Fi Show is a one man guitar act, specializing in late 1950’s through mid-1960’s instrumentals. Backed by pre-recorded bass and drum tracks on a vintage Silvertone reel-to-reel tape deck fed through a vintage PA system, Johnny can play practically any venue, the less conventional the better—and where’s less conventional than WMNF?

The Hi-Fi show captures the sound and look of the mid-century musician on the move, better living through sonic technology, and there’s even a theremin!

With a repertoire of over 50 songs and then some, you’ll be wowed by popular surf tunes of the time by The Ventures and The Astronauts, guitar knockouts Duane Eddy and Johnny Rivers, and the space-age sounds of Joe Meek and Link Wray! As well as lesser known but equally amazing instrumentals from the time and some original songs that fit right in, all given the Johnny Zoom Hi-Fi Show treatment.

It’s an audio preview of the performance at WMNF’s Ticket to Ride Event Monday, September 11 at the Brew Bus Terminal in Tampa!
