Governor Scott wants feds to keep funds flowing for low-income heath care

A $2 billion federal program to reimburse hospitals that many poor and uninsured patients will expire at the end of June. Florida Governor Rick Scott sent president Obama a letter asking the feds to renew the LIP program. In St. Petersburg Thursday morning Scott reiterated his support for receiving the federal funds.

Scott was in St. Pete to champion his tax cuts he says have helped Florida companies stay in business and thrive. He held a press conference at the e-commerce company Jagged Peak, which the governor’s office says has created 158 jobs, including 35 new jobs in the last four years.

After the press conference, reporters asked Governor Scott questions, including his opinion about making his emails public. “I don’t use email for business. I … only for my family,” Scott said.

The governor was also asked about the problems Florida schools have had this week with standardized testing.
