Supreme Court Hobby Lobby Decision

It’s that time of year again – “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed with certain inalienable rights…” Oh, women…not so fast – you are not created equal as the Supreme Court reminded us again this week.

The last I looked it’s hard to have a life without a body and your body is subject to the religious beliefs of others – woe to you if it’s your boss. We will review Burwell v Hobby Lobby and the next day the court ordered back to the federal courts cases that ruled on reproductive choice. JESSICA MASON PIEKLO, SENIOR LEGAL ANALYST, RH REALITY CHECK will discuss this.

4th of July Celebration – 2014

Most of us in the U.S. are 1-3 generations from immigrants ourselves. One of the reasons our ancestors came to this country was to avoid constant entanglement in foreign wars. We have had over 100 years of wars of one type or another. And with the pleas for us to get re-engaged militarily in Iraq – is this really what all of us here want? MAIREAD CORRIGAN MAGUIRE, NOBEL PEACE PRIZE LAUREATE 1976, makes an elegant plea for an end to war and militarism as the solution to world problems. It is ironic that this is the 100th anniversary of the assassination of Duke Ferdinand in Sarajevo. While it might be obvious now that the war to end all wars did not succeed in ending wars, I doubt if we are as aware how it did set back and end a very vital international peace movement that was indeed trying to abolish war as a solution to problems. Perhaps it is time to study war no more, but even more so, to study the processes of peace.
