Meetings of the Florida Cabinet and Board of Executive Clemency planned for next week have been scrapped, according to a schedule posted on the Cabinet website. A meeting of Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Cabinet had been scheduled for Aug. 22. DeSantis and the Cabinet also planned to meet as the clemency board on Aug. 23. The governor’s office and Cabinet members’ offices did not immediately provide reasons for the changes. The Cabinet has met three times this year, most recently on May 23. A meeting on March 13, to approve a new insurance commissioner and a series of land-conservation deals, was conducted over the phone. DeSantis is traveling the country campaigning for president. The first Republican presidential debate will be held Aug. 23 in Milwaukee. The Cabinet members are Attorney General Ashley Moody, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis and Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson. The four statewide-elected officials are next scheduled to meet on Oct. 24, according to the website.
