College sports pull in more money than the NFL, about $13 billion a year. But most of the students athletes never see the money that is made from their skills and likeness. Often their personal and academic lives are tightly controlled by coaches and sports departments only to be largely abandoned by the end of their college athletics career. And even though they are given free scholarships to play in hopes of making it to the major leagues, only 5 percent go on to play professionally. Today we have Ben Strauss, co-author of the new book INDENTURED: The Inside Story of the Rebellion Against the NCAA, to talk about how the college sports organization exploits young athletes.
