Beach Wade-in Civil Disobedience

Host Patró Mabíli commemorate the protest energy of the Civil Rights Movement. This is a mission to ‘Know Their Names’. Those who were enslaved, those who resisted Injustice and those who were lynched in the name of dehumanizing them for white supremacy.

Civil Disobedience against Injustice including the right to use public beaches and pools were a forgotten feature of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and ’60s.

During the Civil Rights era Black doctors often led the civil disobedience action called the Wade-in.

St. Augustine, FL was one flashpoint in which a white hotel manager dumped acid in the pool to punish Black people who were protesting the racist policy. A Black dentist, Dr. Robert B. Hayling, organized protest in St. Augustine.

Also, watching events in Russia as civil disobedience grows following the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
