From a Woman’s POV talks with Tropical Heatwave Artists

It’s that time of year again… On May 30th WMNF will have it’s 35th annual Tropical Heatwave, featuring 50 bands and 10 stages. From blues, jazz, funk, indie to rock, there’s something for everyone. In honor of this year’s festival, From a Woman’s POV will host performers Vanessa Collier and Nikki Hill.

Vanessa Collier a  multi-talented blues, jazz and soul singer and saxophonist extraordinaire.  She graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston where she earned dual degrees in Performance and Music Production & Engineering.  She toured with Joe Louis Walker and now has her first CD: Heart Soul and Saxophone. She will perform from 6:20-7:20 PM on the Italian Club Dance Stage, 1731 E.  7th Avenue, Ybor.

Nikki Hill has been called the “Southern Fireball” and the new soul sensation.  Critics are raving about her latest CD, Heavy Hearts, Hard FistsHer sound is a mixture of Etta James, Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. For those of you lucky enough to have seen her when she performed at Tropical Heatwave 3 years ago, she insists you will see a far more expansive period that she and her husband, Matt Hill are in. Nikki will perform from 11:30 PM to 12:45 AM at the Ritz Ybor, 1503 E. 7th Avenue, Ybor.
