Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee Eckerd College Interview

Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee is engaging as she urges for community outreach. Last evening at Eckerd College in Saint Petersburg the Liberian Nobel Peace Prize winner spoke to students, staff and residents about the global women’s peace movement. She is as passionate as she is humble.

Leymah Gbowee is a renowned peace activist who was instrumental in bringing and end to the Second Liberian Civil War in 2003. In her memoir, “Mighty Be Our Powers: How Sisterhood, Prayer and Sex Changed a Nation at War”, she describes the challenges of forming a coalition of Liberian woman, both Muslim and Christian, to stand up to the warlords of her country. She won the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize with 2 other women. Gbowee said more women need to be added to the discussion on women’s reproductive rights.
