Not since Jake Shimabukuro’s video of him playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps went viral on YouTube has the ukulele world been as excited about a ukulele event as they are about WMNF’s tribute to the ukulele.  Hyperbole?  Not when it comes to ukulele fans!  Seven bands/solos are putting on a ukulele festival Saturday Oct 24th at the New World Brewery.  Not only will this give you a chance to pull out the Hawaiian shirt you have stashed in the back of your closest—but you’ll have a chance to see some of the best ukulele players all in one spot, on one night.

You’ll hear everything from ukulele Reggae and Bluegrass sounds to Americana and Rock—the little ukulele knows no limits.  There will be all kinds of ukuleles in action—bass ukes, electric ukes, banjo ukes, resonator ukes and acoustic ukes.

Plus there will be a Jimi Hendrix of the Ukulele contest: ‘scuse me while I uke this guy.  See who can take the ukulele to the limit and beyond.  Anyone at the show can sign up on the spot (until slots are filled) and compete for the title and prize. So bring your ukuleles-and your best 2 minute Jimi Jam-and be a part of this event!

Then at the end of the night there will be an All-Star Finale to end the show featuring the best of the best ukulele players together on one stage.  Local Uke players are invited to bring their ukuleles to the show and join the jam.

Alex Bonyata and Bella Beyer
Alex is a 15 year old songwriter who plays “any instrument you don’t blow or bow.” His musical ambition is to not be the bass player.  Bella is a 13 year old singer/songwriter. She recently took up ukulele and is hooked.

AmandaLynn
Singer-songwriter offers an acoustic blend of indie, folk, and pop.  Between her abundance of original songs and wide variety of cover songs, she is bound to captivate any audience with her sweet voice, honest song writing, and charming stage presence.

Poly Essence
Of Polynesian descendant, he spreads the island way of life through his passionate ukulele playing of various genres from reggae to rock to love songs.

Tom Hood and the Tropical Sons
Original rock, blues, country and Island flavored tunes culled from his seven CDs.

Jct 27

An original, upbeat all electric ukulele band who brings diverse instrumentation and a variety of genres to their original music. The sound created by this ukulele band brings “uke fusion” to their performances.

Reenee and the Rollers
Celtic based Country Folk Grass with Americana roots!  This 4 piece ukulele band performs originals and innovative covers.
PLUS we are raffling off, among other fun stuff, this Uke:
