Social Security advocate opposes Jeb Bush’s stance on retirement privitization

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush officially announced his run for presidency this week and he hasn’t been shy about voicing support for changing Social Security, including privatization and phasing in an increase of the retirement age. At a town meeting in New Hampshire, Bush called the program a “supplemental retirement system that’s not actuarially sound” and declared his intention to pick up where his brother left off, referring to George W.’s efforts to privatize Social Security that were soundly defeated in 2005. Opponents to privatization say it puts retirement safety, and the program itself,at risk. Joining us to talk about Jeb Bush’s stance on Social Security privatization is Max Richtman, President and CEO of the Committee to Protect Social Security and Medicaid.
