Transgender man and woman discuss issues trans community still face

Caitlyn Jenner, Laverne Cox, and Chelsea Manning. They are just a few of the increasingly visible transgender people in the public eye. Still, trans folk are often misunderstood in society, they face harassment, violence, workplace discrimination, and rates of suicide ideation that are significantly higher than the general population. Joining us today are two transgender people, Grant Drain and Rachel Carey, to explain transgender identity and the many social and legal issues the trans community still face, as well as share their personal stories. Drain is the Director of Communications for the Florida Transgender Alliance and Carey is an academic at Holyoke College.

then we speak with Bruce Wright, a local activist who will be attending this year’s US Social Forum in Philadelphia, June 25-28, 2015. The forum is meant to discuss and devise solutions to social issues. Wright talks about poverty and homelessness in the bay area and what we should do about it.
