A look at the struggle between the feds and Florida for regulation of some state waters

Share

It’s still an open question: who will regulate hundreds of small waterways and wetlands in Florida; will it be the federal EPA or the state?

To look at the history of the controversy and what the near future might hold, WMNF spoke with Jennifer Rubiello, a field organizer with Environment Florida.

According to a press release, Senator Bill Nelson’s staff issued the following statement at Tuesday morning’s news conference:

“Florida’s tourism economy, fisheries and natural resources rely on clean water that is free from algae and tar. I’ve voted twice against attempts by Senate Republicans to cut back protections for clean water, and I will continue to work with the EPA and Army Corps to make sure this rule works for Florida.”
