A second nurse has caught Ebola in a Dallas hospital; here in Tampa nurses drew attention Wednesday afternoon to the dangers of Ebola and to what they say is the lack of preparedness by hospitals.
To do that they staged a “die-in” in Ybor City in front of the Italian Club.
Before the die-in, WMNF interviewed Louise Eastty, a Registered Nurse at an Intensive Care Unit in Pasco County. She is a member of the National Nurses Organizing Committee.
Meanwhile, the nation’s Ebola crisis has yet to reach Florida, but state officials want to spend millions to prepare for a possible outbreak.
This week, top health official asked for permission to redirect money from federal grants to buy full body suits for health care workers who may have contact with any potential victims of the virus.
The state plans to start spending more than $1 million from accounts it controls, but is seeking a green light to use federal grant money for another $6 million.
