Hillsborough Sheriff to stop ICE holds of undocumented immigrants

According to an Associated Press analysis of Homeland Security Department data, the agency is on pace to deport the fewest number of immigrants since at least 2007.

But even immigrants who are not destined to be immediately deported are often detained by local law enforcement departments. But the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is changing its policy and will no longer detain immigrants being investigated for deportation.

It’s an issue that has been brought to the forefront by a local activist group known as Raices en Tampa. WMNF interviewed two of their organizers, Catherine Lim and Marisol Marquez.
