Counterterrorism experts will tell you that the sting operations are vital to protecting the homeland. They argue that police routinely use stings in investigations of child porn, human trafficking, public corruption, financial fraud and drug trafficking. They also point out that attacks mounted by foreign terror groups have not reached the homeland in the last 12 years.
