Scheduled Florida execution prompts death penalty protests

Share

Eddie Wayne Davis, a man convicted of raping and killing an 11-year old girl 20 years ago, is scheduled to be executed Thursday evening. Davis had appealed his death sentence arguing one of the three drugs administered during the execution would cause him extreme abdominal distress. That appeal was struck down. Now, the group Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty is asking opponents of capital punishment to join one of 20 vigils across the state including Pinellas County, Lakeland and Sarasota. Mark Elliott is the executive Director of that group.

Locations in the Tampa Bay area are at Ulmerton and 49th St. in Pinellas County at 5:00 p.m., Resurrection Parish in Lakeland and the St. Andrew United Church of Christ in Sarasota at 5:30 p.m. More information and a complete list is on the FADP website.
