Radioactivity August 9 2017 Good morning, welcome to Radioactivity. I’m Rob Lorei. Coming up today we’ll talk about the President’s promise to save manufacturing jobs in Erie, Pennsylvania. General Electric wants to layoff hundreds of blue collar and white collar workers there at its locomotive factory. And later- is the US on the brink of war with North Korea?

A year ago Donald Trump had won the Republican nomination and was going into traditional Democratic strongholds—promising to save manufacturing jobs.
In Erie Pennsylvania- where General Electric has built giant locomotives for a century — he spoke to a crowd of 8,000 people promising to protect jobs therefor manufacturing workers.

Here’s part of what he said.

President Trump, one year ago promising to save manufacturing jobs in Erie, Pennsylvania.

But two weeks ago workers at the largest manufacturing company in that county—workers at the GE locomotive plant got some bad news. 575 of the 2600 blue collar workers at the plant (which makes locomotives that are shipped throughout the world) are being laid off.

I spoke with Scott Slawson, president of the United Electrical Workers Union local 506 which represents blue collar workers at the plant—which was founded by Thomas Edison 100 years ago.

Yesterday President Donald Trump issued an extraordinary ultimatum to North Korea on Tuesday warning Pyongyang not to make any more threats against the United States or they will “face fire and fury like the world has never seen,” during a photo op at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
“North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen… he has been very threatening beyond a normal state. They will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before,” he said.
Trump, Kim ramp up rhetoric
Trump’s harsh words come as US intelligence analysts have assessed that North Korea has produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead, according to multiple sources familiar with the analysis of North Korea’s missile and nuclear program.
