A $7 million project moving a historic skate bowl about 200 feet from one side of a park to another was approved by Tampa City Council Thursday. The “Bro Bowl” has been around since the 1970s and its users fought to save it by getting historic designation for the graffiti-laden concrete bowl. Now, through an expensive compromise, the city will build skaters a new park.
The project is expected to be completed sometime next fall. Contractors will break ground on Perry Harvey Sr. Park as soon as September of this year.
Brad Sudder is head of capital development for the city’s Parks and Rec department.
